About CRE

A Dedicated Research Hub in Entomology

The Centre for Research in Entomology (CRE) was established under the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna, to advance high-impact research in medical, agricultural, forensic, and ecological entomology.

Who We Are

CRE functions as a platform for interdisciplinary research, student training, and the development of community-oriented solutions to entomological challenges in Sri Lanka. With state-of-the-art facilities and strong academic leadership, CRE contributes to vector-borne disease management, agricultural pest control, biodiversity conservation, and public health entomology.

Entomology has emerged as a prominent research domain in the department, with sustained M.Phil and Ph.D. output. CRE laboratories are equipped through support from national and international agencies including NSF, NRC, SLCARP, UoJ, and UNDP.
